Abstract

Green FinTech is a new discipline that has emerged at the intersection of financial technology (FinTech) and sustainable finance and seeks to make financial operations more environmentally friendly with the help of digital innovation. The governments and regulatory bodies are increasingly appreciating the fact that regulation structures and policy tools are important in influencing Green FinTech ecosystems. Nevertheless, the characteristics and efficiency of these structures differ greatly between the developed and emerging economies because of the disparities in the institutional capacity, the maturity of financial markets, and digital infrastructure. This chapter discusses the regulatory framework to control the Green FinTech ecosystem with a comparative approach to developed or emerging economies. Basing their analysis on international policy trends and case studies of the European Union, Singapore, India, and China, the chapter discusses the policies implemented by governments that use regulatory sandboxes, green taxonomies, disclosure regimes, and other macroprudential.
