Cost-Optimal Electricity Redistribution Among Indian States Using Cooperative Game Theory and Real Consumption Data.

Abstract
This study uses game theory to determine the optimal way to share electricity across states in India in May 2024, utilising data on each state's electricity consumption. By establishing a cooperative game framework between surplus and deficit states, this technique aims to meet established energy demands in undersupplied areas while minimising the overall cost of power transfer. States like Maharashtra and Gujarat were granted permission to distribute up to 20% of their monthly electricity supply since they had excess power. Specific consumption targets were set for the power-poor states of Nagaland, Sikkim, and Mizoram. It is a cost matrix that illustrates the expenses associated with transporting goods from suppliers to consumers. The optimisation method used a greedy heuristic to find the least expensive redistribution plan, allowing Gujarat to meet most of the demand through power transfers at a cost of 2 per million units (MU). All the transfers totalled 150 million. Decisions regarding how to reduce operating costs, increase grid reliability, and balance power demands across regions should be better informed by cooperative game theory, according to the research. The methodology has great potential for applications in smart grid policy frameworks, renewable energy integration, and real-time markets, which will greatly help power system regulators and planners.
