Abstract

The increasing feminisation of international migration has positioned migrant women at the centre of global labour markets, particularly in domestic work, caregiving, hospitality and other labour-intensive sectors. Despite their significant economic and social contributions, many continue to experience labour precarity, legal insecurity and institutional exclusion. This chapter examines how migration governance frameworks, labour market segmentation and immigration policies produce structural inequalities that restrict access to labour rights, social protection and social inclusion. It further highlights the agency and resilience of migrant women through community networks, transnational connections and collective advocacy. The chapter argues for rights-oriented and inclusive governance frameworks that recognise migrant women as active social and economic actors. It contributes to Sustainable Development Goals concerning gender equality, decent work, reduced inequalities and inclusive institutions.
