Abstract

This study examines the policy capacity of the members of the African Union (AU) to absorb migrants affected by US immigration restrictions during the Trump administration. It explores the Immigration policies of the United States affected by the Donald Trump administration, which restricted entry, imposed travel bans, reduced refugees‟ allowance, and imposed more difficult visa policies for migrants, especially Africans. The study reveals that, although the African Union has implemented policies that allow immigration, including the Policy Framework for African and the Free Movement of Persons Protocol, AU members have also faced political, economic, and security challenges. There are inconsistent sanctions on Free Movement Protocols, resulting in a lack of funding and control over the border agreement. Movement of people within Africa to
work with Regional Economic Communities, as well as the integration of Migration and Development, are possible. The Policies of the African Union are strong, but are mainly affected by political will and effective structure to be effectively implemented.
