Abstract

The study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in achieving privacy, trust, and security within Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) systems, with an explanatory focus on the context of Oman. As CBDCs capture global interest, robust privacy, trust and security practices are imperative for the successful and secure adoption of these systems. We discuss the potential applications of AI financial solutions such as cryptographic systems, behavioral analytics or predictive modelling as tools of overcoming the main challenges facing designs of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) systems, including fraud prevention, data protection and user authentication. An electronic survey of 254 respondents in Oman was conducted on the perceptions about AI-integration in CBDC frameworks. Overall, the results prove that AI plays a very important positive role in improving privacy, trust, and security, and that respondents are confident that AI can reduce risks, while protect user data. They show how AI could power drive change in how CBDC security and trustworthiness evolve in Oman. The study also offers the implications based on these results for policymakers, Central Bank of Oman, and technology developers, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in AI technologies to ensure the resilience and reliability of CBDC infrastructures. This study adds to the current understanding of how AI shapes digital finance; it also offers practical ideas to build trust in CBDCs in Oman and beyond.
