Abstract
The major tributary of the Yamuna River is Chambal River, characterized by gullies, ravines, and badlands (rugged topography). The rugged topography has evolved over thousands of years through continuous water erosion, which causes significant land degradation and affects crop fertility within the study area. Due to the continuous land degradation and rising demand for food, vegetation monitoring is essential to maintain food product, ecological balance, and drought vulnerability. In this study, we have calculated the Vegetation health Index (VHI) by utilizing the Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) and the Temperature Condition Index within Google Earth Engine (GEE) a cloud-based platform. The VCI provides vegetation condition information using NDVI data and TCI provides suitable temperature range for crop growth, and both data with some weighting coefficients provide vegetation health stress. The VHI is further utilized for drought monitoring, land management, and conservation practices.
