Abstract
This Globally, there remains water pollution as the most pressing environmental challenges. Corollary to these challenges, water quality monitoring using commercial technologies are costly, labor-intensive, and time-consuming, thus, these limit the effectiveness of real-time monitoring system, particularly in water quality. This study utilized Agile methodology with iterative sprints to design and develop an IoT-enabled wastewater monitoring system integrated with Wireless Sensor Networks and ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4) protocol to detect key water quality parameters-pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. The system was simulated using the CupCarbon software for reliability and evaluation of multiple sensor nodes, ZigBee-based communication architecture, and a web-based dashboard for analytics and visualization as a smart environment. As gleaned, successful real-time data transmission and monitoring were observed, thus, it posits that WSN-based systems can offer scalable, low-cost, and energy-efficient solutions for urban water monitoring.
