Abstract
Focusing on papier mâché artisans in Kashmir, this chapter explores how visual ethnography documents artisanal lives within fragile political and economic contexts. Using photography, collaborative storytelling, and video, it reveals challenges of sustaining craft amid socio-economic change. Methodological concerns around trust, ethics, and power imbalances are discussed, with emphasis on artisans as co-authors of their stories. This approach democratises research, amplifies muted voices, and foregrounds the cultural significance of craft traditions.
