Abstract
The 21st century has brought about a fundamental transformation in the character of armed conflict due to rapid technological development. In particular, the introduction of drones and autonomous weaponry introduces new challenges to the conventional constructs and internal definitions of the Just War Theory. The critical analysis of scholarly discourse on Artificial Intelligence (AI) reveals that this technology challenges the core principles of jus in bello and jus ad bellum. The chapter will utilise a descriptive conceptual analysis and a critical analysis based on the available empirical evidence in the existing academic literature. Although the strategic benefit of drones and Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) is obvious, the consequences should be given the same grave consideration.
