Recent years have seen the combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Circular Economy (CE) emerge as a key area of interest for both academic research and practical innovation (Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2019). Although AI as a driver of digital intelligence (Peretz-Andersson et al., 2024) and the Circular Economy as a framework for sustainable value creation (Tutore et al., 2024) evolved independently from each other, their combined development has only begun recently and remains at an early developmental phase. This Handbook responds to the growing need for comprehensive interdisciplinary insights into how artificial intelligence serves as both an engine and facilitator of circular economic practices across multiple sectors and societal domains.
