Abstract

Management scholarship has experienced significant growth, marked by the publication of seminal articles introducing novel ideas and perspectives. In his seminal (1992) article titled ‘The Austrian School of Strategy,’ Robert Jacobson advocated for incorporating Austrian principles into management research, emphasizing competitive dynamics, uncertain market conditions, and the entrepreneur's role in the market process. Although more than three decades have passed since the publication of Jacobson (1992), the extent and nature of its influence on subsequent scholarship have remained unexplored. Our study conducts an in-depth citation context analysis to investigate Jacobson's (1992) influence on subsequent research. We aim to understand the content and context of citations, substantive versus peripheral use of Jacobson's insights, critical perspectives, empirical evidence supporting knowledge claims, and co-citation patterns. Our analysis provides valuable insights into the evolution and impact of Jacobson (1992) on organizational scholarship, offering suggestions for future research building on the ideas emphasized by Jacobson (1992).
